Initial Certification

Testing new chargers using NIST-Traceable equipment to verify accuracy and safety specifications (e.g., CTEP Compliance) before commercial operation.

What Is CTEP Compliance?

CTEP (California Type Evaluation Program) is a mandatory California state certification ensuring commercial measuring devices, including EV chargers, are accurate, fair, and fraud-proof for public use. Formal testing and approval by the CDFA Division of Measurement Standards (DMS) are required before a device can bill customers. CTEP promotes consumer protection through transparency, clear pricing, and digital receipts.

Sealing & Registration

Applying a seal and sticker to confirm successful inspection and managing the registration process with local County Weights & Measures Offices.

Immediately following a successful inspection, the technician is responsible for applying an official seal to the device. This seal serves as physical evidence that the instrument has passed all mandated tests and meets legal standards for accuracy and performance.

Simultaneously, a certification sticker, often displaying the date of inspection and a unique identification number, is affixed to the visible exterior of the device. This sticker confirms the successful inspection and the validity of the device's measurements until the next scheduled examination.

To maintain ongoing compliance and ensure the continued accuracy and reliability of all critical equipment and systems, a rigorous schedule must be adhered to for yearly re-testing, re-sealing, and renewing calibration certificates. This comprehensive approach is essential for meeting regulatory requirements, upholding quality standards, and minimizing the risk of operational failure or inaccurate measurements.

Key components of annual compliance maintenance are:

  1. Yearly Re-Testing: confirm performance, identify degradation, and ensure correct operation.
  2. Re-sealing: preserve physical integrity and tamper-proof status of calibrated devices.
  3. Renewing Calibration Certificates: annual renewal by accredited labs/certified technicians.
